What is the Nutritarian Diet?
If you’re searching for information on the Nutritarian Diet, bless your little fingers. Surely you’ve been banging away on that keyboard researching the best options for weight loss and your health.
Success starts with knowledge. So let’s get to it. What is the Nutritarian Diet and will it help you lose weight?
The Nutritarian Diet Basics
The best intro I can give to start you on your knowledge journey is that this diet doesn’t require you to count calories.
But it does require you to rekindle your relationship with plant-based foods. Dr. Joel Fuhrman, the creator, claims more than 20 years of research goes into the Nutritarian Diet.
There are four tenets to the foundation of the diet.
Nutrient Density: is a system where foods are ranked on the number of nutrients per calorie they have. Leafy greens are obviously at the top, while sugary junk food is at the bottom.
Nutrient Adequacy: refers to taking or consuming necessary vitamins and fatty acids to keep you functioning.
Hormonal Favorability: references choosing lower glycemic indexed carbs and less animal protein to avoid diseases and conditions associated with the consumption of high GI carbs and animal protein/meats.
Toxin Avoidance: is partially self-explanatory and references avoiding chemicals and other toxins in processed foods.
He claims it will not only help you lose weight, but stop cravings for the bad foods, while protecting your heart and health from diseases like cancer, heart disease, and other conditions.
He also claims it will arm the body with the ability to slow down aging and heal.
How does Nutritarian Diet work?
There are two programs to choose from—the 10 in 20 program which includes a download for meals from day 1 through 20 along with details. This one is quick and can be tough to stick with as you withdraw from the bad foods.
You can pretty much pretend you’re a rabbit during this plan. Eradicating dairy, processed and bbq meats, soda, sugar and sale, you will eat veggies mostly, some whole grains, fruit and nuts.
If you’re not a crash dieter, a longer 6-week plan is available aiming for 20 pounds rather than 10.
Will you Lose Weight on the Nutritarian Diet?
Uhhh, yeah– probably. More like, most likely. You really can’t go wrong with a complete switch of your diet to whole foods, mostly veggies and none of the bad stuff.
But you’re giving up a TON of stuff and unless you’re prepared to live like that—be prepared to pack some pounds back on.
The best diets are the ones that can turn into the way you live.
